About a month ago we introduced you to Kannibalen Records and their full artist roster. On June 22nd the team organized another one of their dope events at The Belmont in Montreal, Canada, this time to celebrate the release of their Kannibals at the Beach EP. The music for the night was provided by Black Tiger Sex Machine, Dooze Jackers, Elo!i & Heights, with special guest sets by Lektrique, and The W4rriors. Any hip-hop fan residing in Toronto will tell you that iLuvlLola has been putting on some of the best hip-hop shows the city has to offer, and Lola is now spreading her love across North America. Her latest show in NYC was another sold out success as Lola teamed up with the good people at SOB’s to present Chicago’s latest hip-hop star, Chief Keef.

The music was provided by Meka of 2DopeBoyz with a special set by FunkmasterFlex, and hosted by Low Key of YouHeardThatNew and Hustle Simmons.

Chief Keef, only 16 years old, signed his deal with Interscope last week and a publishing deal with Dr. Dre. “They was talkin’ good to me,” he said to MTV’s Rap Fix. “They was talkin’ like I was talkin’ and I liked that. All these other labels, I was talkin’ to ‘em, but it’s time anyway for me and I’m goin’ with Interscope.”
A viral sensation, Keef’s “I Don’t Like” was remixed by Kanye West and is currently burning the airwaves and the clubs.

A$AP Rocky will be heading on a 13-date international tour starting next month, performing in major cities across Europe, Canada, and the U.S. He will also be stopping in our home city Toronto, Canada for Drake’s third annual OVO Fest. The Airplane Boys will make their hometown landing for “Canada Day: Going Global” with a free concert at Harbourfront Centre’s WestJet Stage on Friday, June 29 at 9 p.m.

The genre-mashing duo play their first hometown show since performing at this year’s South by South West Music Festival in Austin, Texas and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.

Their much acclaimed Alignment mixtape is now vailable for free download.

Today I found out that a lot of people in Toronto are not aware of Coachella, so I wanted to shine some light to this years festival which takes place in California. The event is held between April 13-15 and April 20-22 weekends featuring performances by The Black Keys, Sweedish House Mafia, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, SBTRKT, Florence + The Machine, AVICII, Toronto’s own The Airplane Boys + The Weeknd and many more.

Recording artist T.Mills will be in Toronto on Friday, March 23rd for a show at Opera House. iLuvLola x Community 54 have paired up yet again to organize a 1-hour meet-and-greet with T.Mills before the show. About T. Mills

T. Mills is a true testament to the ‘Playlist Generation’ unbound by genre. With influences ranging from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony to Nirvana to Wiz Khalifa, his sound and style have universal appeal. His music has garnered him over 200,000 fans on Facebook, 60,000 Twitter followers and a packed touring schedule in just a few years. T. Mills has the crossover capabilities to become a household name, says DJ Z from DJBooth.net, If you’re not familiar with his name or his music yet, that will soon change.

Things really began to take shape just over two years ago, though. I took a T-Pain and Plies beat, and I made a song over it on Garage Band in my bedroom, and I made a MySpace page and I put some pictures up, and kids just started finding my page, he says. I recorded like three more demos in my bedroom and I kept putting songs up. He would interact with his fans, promising them that when he hit new thresholds of friends (1000, 5000, etc.), he would put up another song.

That’s key, because I would literally spend eight to nine hours a day on my computer, adding kids and talking to my fans, he says. It was a cool way for me to connect and I could take their temperature on what was working for me and what wasn’t working for me. I just kind of got to build my own virtual career. It got to the point where I had like 30,000 plays a day and I only had four or five songs up there. Virtual soon became reality, when, through an acquaintance and good timing, Mills landed himself a coveted spot on the summer-long Warped Tour 2009. I sold my own merch everyday. I set up my own equipment everyday. I just hustled. I played 60 shows by myself the whole summer. It was a grind but it was amazing.

Once he returned to the Pacific, Mills rode his early wave of success to book shows for himself at local venues. Then, one day, unexpectedly, the tattooed talent got a call from John D’Esposito, Live Nation’s vice president of talent and the founder of Bamboozle. I was trippin, Mills says. I didn’t know if that shit was real or fake, so I called, and it really was him. D’Esposito asked the newbie to craft the theme song for the festival and, in return, gave him a spot on the B-Boy stage, which was also rocked by the likes of Mike Posner and Far East Movement. That was cool for me cause I didn’t have an album out, and it was my first time playing in the East Coast, Mills says. I didn’t know what to expect, and we had four or five thousand kids who knew every single word. That was an eye opener for me and definitely a turning point for my career.

As the catchy, genre-bending songs continue to develop, you can try to classify T. Mills, but that doesn’t matter. He’s going to keep doing it his way, like he has all along. When I go in the studio I don’t say, ‘I want to write a rap song; I want to write a pop song.’ I hear what’s in front of me and I work with what I have and I create what I want to listen to. I don’t care if people want to label me a pop artist. I’m not a rapper; I’m not a singer. I’m just an artist. I’m Travis.
